This spectacular Holcombe Home is in the covenant land of Rancho Santa Fe, California. It sits on over 2.5 acres of tree-filled land, including award-winning gardens, simultaneously offering both privacy and the benefit of being within walking distance to the town center and the elementary school. Complementing the great Southern California climate, this home offers many indoor and outdoor areas. This extraordinary home consists of 4 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, a library, a family room, a wine room, two outdoor living rooms, a barbeque area, a swimming pool, and much more.

The Casa Tranquilo residence is a 1945 adobe home that has been completely remodeled. We brought the home up to date, yet still kept the charm and soul of the original structure. Most of the original adobe was in excellent condition even after half a century--a testament to the sound construction principles which are largely forgotten in today's modern houses. Thick walls are the norm in this home: some 12 inches thick, others 16 inches thick. All of them give the home a solid feel. Wherever possible, the ceilings, once about 8.5 feet high, have been raised. The living room features a wood ceiling towering 11 feet high, just like in the dining room and the outdoor living room, and these are equipped with giant beams and corbels.

The original floor tile has been left in place where possible and refinished. Many of the original doors and windows have been reworked and are either being used in their original locations or in new places, instead of replacing them with modern windows or doors. Everything else has been redone, but in keeping with the original. Some of the doors in the home date back to the 1940s. Moreover, some of the doors that were installed during the remodeling are much older than that. As is our custom, antique doors were placed in strategic locations. These doors date back to the 30s... the 1830s that is! They are thick, solid mesquite doors with original hinges and hardware. Imported from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and other Central American countries, these doors have been cleaned, repaired, and refinished to bring out their very best. Each door is unique and a cultural work of art.

There are 9 fireplaces in and around the house, including one in the master bedroom and one by the swimming pool. There is a fireplace in the kitchen/cooking area, one in each living room, and one in the kitchen patio. The library, the outdoor kitchen, and the family room each have one as well.

Casa Tranquilo is a handmade home. The adobe was made using dirt from the property on which it sits. The floor tiles were all handmade. The walls were hand-plastered and hand-troweled inside and out. The countertops all have handmade tiles or cut stone. Even the sconces inside and out were handmade by Jesus Maria Estevez at his renowned Iron Works in Mexico.

Outside, the gardens feature extensive paths that meander about the property. On the property there are orange, lime, lemon, and avocado trees. Roses and lillies, trees, flowers, and bushes everywhere! There is a tall magnolia in the garden that blooms with the most magnificent flowers. Near the swimming pool there's also a giant plumeria that blooms in the spring and summer, and on the east of the property, a rose garden.

The home has three bedrooms, four full baths, one powder room, a library, a family/game room, a living room, a kitchen, a butler's pantry, a dining room, and a wine room. There's also a laundry room and an additional office (or exercise room) off the kitchen patio, overlooking the swimming pool, a two car garage, and a golf cart garage. It's truly a spectacular home!
